I am even more honored to be here with General Clay, my distinguished colleague who has been here with Berlin through thick and thin, and who will stand by us if needed!
Two thousand years ago, the proudest declaration of an era was: "I am a Roman citizen." Today, in the free world, the strongest voice resounding throughout the universe is: "Ich bin ein Berliner. I am a Berliner!"
There are many people in this world who do not understand, or simply do not know, the difference between the free world and the communist countries - let them come to Berlin. There are many people in this world who say that communism is the wave of the future.
